Orthodontics in Pitt Meadows

Orthodontics is devoted to creating beautiful smiles and improving overall health by bringing teeth, lips and jaw into proper alignment. By straightening teeth that are crooked or overlapping, correcting gaps, and realigning the jaw, orthodontic treatment enhances patients’ smiles and reduces the risk of a range of health problems.

Orthodontics is often associated with teenagers wearing braces, but patients of all ages can benefit from treatment. The American Dental Association recommends that children have their first orthodontic assessment by age seven, and 30% of today’s orthodontic patients are adults.

Advancements in modern orthodontics allow us to offer more options than ever for effective treatment with minimum discomfort and a discreet appearance. From traditional braces to removable appliances, there are options for every patient.

Clear Aligners in Pitt Meadows

Clear Aligners is the ‘invisible’ way to straighten teeth. Half of the patients in our office who get orthodontic treatment are adults. Adults typically opt for Clear Aligners, because they’re clear and removable, which is a big benefit versus the traditional braces.

There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. In addition, clear aligners users have the ability to remove their trays before they eat, enabling them to eat all the foods they normally would.

The Clear Aligners system is a series of custom made clear trays, that move the teeth a certain amount, with each one set to a predetermined end point. What that means is that there’s a series of aligners made. You change them every two weeks, and we know what the end result should look like.

With braces, we have the traditional metal brackets with wires. A little less comfortable. Both clear aligners and braces work well.

There is the chance of brackets coming off and there are food restrictions because they’re always on. With the Clear Aligners, you can take the aligners out to eat, you can take them out to clean, you can take them out even if you have a function that you need to attend, or that sort of thing.

The aligners when viewed from further away than a foot, are hard to tell that the person’s even wearing them. We rarely ever notice any speech issues. The person doesn’t lisp, the lip doesn’t catch on the aligners, or anything like that. Very different from braces.

We have had many team members in our office wearing clear aligners, and most of the time that patients are talking to them, they can’t even tell that they’re wearing the aligners. That sort of is really a virtually invisible orthodontic appliance, whereas braces, not so much, but there is a time and place for both.

Clear Aligners often requires fewer appointments, because we need to see you every six weeks versus every thirty days. Typical duration of treatment for adults is about fourteen months with Clear Aligners.
